A103 TMA03

The wheel clicks one part-revolution onwards…

Things start to change with the next module. Both the answer paradigm and question structure begin to open up.

The framework begins to fall away; research materials become far more widely available (but nonetheless specialist) and the scope of the subjects start to widen.

TMA03: Classical Studies

Part 1 (short answer)

Question
How did the design of the Colosseum relate to its public function and to its symbolic meaning?

Answer in no more than 300 words.

Part 2 (essay)

Question
What attitudes towards the Roman games did the ancient writers express? How would you account for the differences and similarities between these attitudes?

Answer in no more than 900 words.

Both parts to arrive no later than 7th December 2007.

If I close my eyes and crawl under a big rock will this TMA disappear?
Really not looking forward to doing it 🙁

    Laura

  2. Aaron says:

I think this TMA is easier than the last. but im really confused on the whole eTMA system! im not sure if I used the right format on my last one and i don’t know if it can be marked? oh sh*t :S

  3. Laura says:

I have written part 1 but I am so not happy with it. I am not sure I have even answered the question! Arghhhhhhhhhhh

  4. tiffany says:

hey i am just about to tackle this tma03. by the looks of it i would much rather tackle all of the trials in one go from i am a celeb!! erg!! i

  5. Laura says:

I am actually really happy with this one, I was scared doing TMA02 but I understand 03 alot more and I am finding it really easy.

BTW I got 68% on my TMA 02 woop yay for me!

  6. Brennig says:

Laura: congrats on your 68%. I got 55% but considering I only got a 3 for my philosophy 55% isn’t too bad.

I’m probably not going to get TMA03 in on time. The vet told me this morning that I should have one of my horses put down this week and it’s completely knocked me of my perch.

  7. jamie says:

Not really sure where to start on this one. On tma 02 i struggled to meet the 300 word limit, but there seems to be too much info for this question and it will be hard to condense into 300 words. Got 88% for tma 02, so should be able to drop some marks here without affecting overall score.

  8. dudius says:

Wow… 88%.. Fantastic. Well done Jamie. I had to settle for a 72%, and wasn’t happy. The feedback I got basically said I should have expanded on some points and used some quotes. The thing is, I’d trimmed and trimmed and sliced and diced and cut and downsized and trimmed some more, just so I could get down to the 300 word limit. How I could have expanded on any points, I have no idea. On the bright side, my tutor said I had an obvious aptitude in Philosophy, which is funny, because I was so far behind by the time I tackled those questions, I didn’t even read through the material, and spent a total of 5 minutes on that section. Probably just as well, considering my degree (hopefully) will be in Philosophy.

  9. Laura says:

Brennig: Sorry to hear about the horse, hope everything is OK.

My tutor is fantastic with feedback, wrote almost 2 pages in notes telling me what I should and shouldn’t have done, what I needed to add and what shouldn’t have been in there, it was really helpfull. Have realised though that if I had remembered to put a bibligraphy (sp?) I would have gotten a B 🙁

  11. Vikki says:

Well Kelly i agree with you! I’ve been trying to write my part 2 of the assignment since 9:30 this morning…I haven’t even started part 1. I think i have got to the stage where i have read so much information that i can’t seem to make sense of it. If anyone has any advice, please help. My email address is
    vikki-gabbitas@hotmail.co.uk

  12. Vikki says:

Brennig I’m really sorry to read about your horse.

I’ve just been looking at your Rome pics, they’re really good!

  13. Victoria says:

Finally got my TMA02 result. I got 80% and i’m really, really please – Didn’t think i’d have got anywhere near that.

  14. Brennig says:

    Yay for you Victoria. 🙂

  15. Jimbo says:

Finished TMA03 at 11pm last night. Kept wanting to tweak and change it but had to be diciplined and leave it alone. Am driving round my tutors at lunchtime and posting it myself so I hit the deadline! good thing he’s only up the road.

I am happy with what I’ve done and I think I’ve answered the question properly. Am hoping for a better mark than TMA02 (boo). Looking forward to the next block as it appears interesting.

  16. JezzaBelle says:

    *very pleased with self

I got 79% on TMA03! I was amazed, but it seems that the less time I have to complete, the more focused my mind becomes!

  17. Brennig says:

JezzaBelle – congratulations, 79% is excellent!

    A public answer to a private email from a non-broadband internet user…

Should the podcast go in to detailed discussion of OU-related activities, it would be reflected in the podcast notes. I hope that deals with your question?
