This is a piece of helmetcam footage from the cross-country phase of a CIC*** One Day Event.
Not only is it apparent that the horse *loves* his work, he has a fantastic attitude and a big, bold jump.
Those fences are *big*, yet the horse is so scopey he makes it look as though he’s almost stepping over them.
*love* this horse:
That was interesting. Not because I have never seen eventing before but because in my whole life I have never sat on a horse. I dare say I’d be scared stiff if I actually did but that drew me in. I can not only see the attraction but focused strongly enough to “feel” it. I know someone who has been nagging me to go riding with her and now I think I might. I’m dead certain I won’t be doing that though, just a steady trot at best.
I’ve evented for *cough* forty-odd years and still don’t know why I do it.
Nice attitude to his work – I can see the attraction! I nearly bought a considerably slower Highland pony yesterday, but unfortunately someone else had better lined pockets :o(
I’d like to see you on a Highland pony!
🙂
Shame it didn’t work out though. Boo!
That helmcam is weird: I’d have expected more bouncing & so on particularly over the fences.
It’s the horse basculing and the rider compensating that make going over the fences look a lot smoother than it is. The only way to get a good view of that effect is to watch it from the ground.
