Truly Scrumptious

The medium-short dogwalk is up the jitty to the southern end of the village, around the Methodist Church/hall and back home. Friday evening (just gone) I was (inevitably) walking the dogs and had chosen the medium-short walk because I was chasing an early night (didn’t happen) prior to driving to Aberystwyth and back the following day. As Robyn, Chewie and I rounded the Methodist establishment I noticed two things:

  1. All the doors and windows were wide open and
  2. There were crowds of people milling about

These are both strange and irregular occurrences. When I returned to the Methodists with Mavis there was the sound of singing from within. And not the type of singing one might normally associate with Methodists. ‘That’s from Mary Poppins,’ I said to Mavis who couldn’t care less. I looked in through the double fire doors that were wide open. Lines of people were performing choreographed dancing whilst singing in gorgeous harmony.

Upon my return home I asked the local Facebook group (because nothing says ‘world wide web’ more than a rural community in South Notts having its own FB group). The following day there was a reply. The troupe was the Nottingham Operatic Society rehearsing for their version of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang which they will be performing at the Theatre Royal, Nottingham, from 25th to 28th October.

Well, that’s got to be worth a visit, hasn’t it? They sounded (and looked) really good!

  1. Let’s hope they haven’t brought it up-to-date and made Chitty into an electric hybrid.
Chitty [silence] Bang [silence] doesn’t have the same ring to it.
