Our energy supplier (Ovo) has been writing letters and calling me, telling me that we need to get a smart meter installed because the radio service that coordinates stuff behind the scenes is being turned off.
But I don’t want a smart meter.
We have a dual-meter day/night economy 7 system. We don’t have night storage heaters (which were the reason many homes had economy 7 meters installed in the first place) – or anything else *heavy* that would operate on the night tariff. We do set the dishwasher and washing machine to come on after midnight, but that’s it. Our central heating system is gas-powered.
Ovo, in their comms, use the word ‘may’ a lot. If we don’t change to a smart meter our energy supply *may* be impacted, things *may* not work properly (without actually saying what things these are likely to be), and our energy bills *may* go up.
This sounds like a load of bullshit to me.
And I don’t want a smart meter.
Can I ask why?
I’ve had Smart Meters for Gas and Electric for years and haven’t had any issues.
Also, in these days of constantly rising prices, I quite like being able to keep an eye on my daily usage.
Yes, yes. Eminently sensible. But who said I was sensible?
Ooh ooh, I know this!
Was it… absolutely no-one.
Ever.
?
You are, of course, correct.
