{"id":10030,"date":"2014-03-03T18:48:35","date_gmt":"2014-03-03T18:48:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/?p=10030"},"modified":"2014-03-03T18:50:12","modified_gmt":"2014-03-03T18:50:12","slug":"sometimes-i-dont-get-the-insurance-industry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/?p=10030","title":{"rendered":"Sometimes I don\u2019t get the insurance industry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>This started a few weeks ago when I was looking to insure the Daytona<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The facts:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I&#8217;ve owned\/ridden bikes for more than 20 years<\/li>\n<li>I\u2019ve never made a bike claim or been the subject of a bike claim<\/li>\n<li>My last bike (Bandit) and the VFR have both been insured through Bennetts without a break in cover<\/li>\n<li>I always insure all of my vehicles Fully Comprehensive<\/li>\n<li>I always pay for my insurance in an annual lump sum<\/li>\n<li>None of my vehicles are ever on HP or leased<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">When it became time to insure the Daytona I rang Bennetts, obviously, to see what they could do for me.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Not a lot (to quote Paul Daniels).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The insurer who is covering the VFR will only accept one bike per household.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Can I get me a quote from someone else, I asked?<\/p>\n<p>They took the usual details and came back with a quote of \u00a3515.<\/p>\n<p>What?<\/p>\n<p>I know the Daytona is a sports\/superbike, but \u00a3515 for a year&#8217;s fully comp? For me?<\/p>\n<p>I flipped over to price comparison website Go Compare, and answered pretty much the same questions.<\/p>\n<p>The second-lowest price Go Compare came back with was \u00a3138. I chose that one because it included European cover, the lowest price of \u00a3129 was a UK-only rate.<\/p>\n<p>That is a stunning difference over \u00a3515.<\/p>\n<p>And here&#8217;s another stunning thing.<\/p>\n<p>Even though I have years of no-claims, I can not use any of my no-claims for the Daytona.
