{"id":10844,"date":"2015-07-06T16:36:41","date_gmt":"2015-07-06T15:36:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/?p=10844"},"modified":"2015-07-06T16:38:27","modified_gmt":"2015-07-06T15:38:27","slug":"leaving-gaps-in-the-lives-of-others","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/?p=10844","title":{"rendered":"Leaving gaps in the lives of others"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I don&#8217;t know about you, or even whether you have these thoughts, but it&#8217;s the everyday stuff that filters through my mind.<\/p>\n<p>I think about the routines.<\/p>\n<p>And I think &#8216;What will happen if I\u2019m not here?&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Who will do the things that I do?<\/p>\n<p>Who will cover for me at work?<\/p>\n<p>Who will put the bins out on a Wednesday?<\/p>\n<p>Who will do the washing up?<\/p>\n<p>Who will deliberately be the focus of occasional jokes, for the emotional betterment of friends, colleagues, loved ones?<\/p>\n<p>Who will fill the gap in the lives of these friends, colleagues, loved ones &#8211; a gap that should be filled with mirth, and infrequent faux rage?<\/p>\n<p>And it isn&#8217;t so much the &#8216;who?&#8217;; it&#8217;s the &#8216;what happens if nobody else does these things?&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>A guy I know died on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>He was much younger than me.<\/p>\n<p>He leaves behind two small children, and their grieving mother.<\/p>\n<p>And I wonder how they&#8217;re dealing with the crushing grief that I know they must be living through.<\/p>\n<p>I hope they&#8217;re going to come out of this without permanent damage.<\/p>\n<p>I wish I could help, but I don&#8217;t know them.<\/p>\n<p>So I think about some of the things that he did.<\/p>\n<p>And I wonder how they are coping with the gaps.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I don&#8217;t know about you, or even whether you have these thoughts, but it&#8217;s the everyday stuff that filters through my mind.
