{"id":10949,"date":"2015-11-24T14:40:58","date_gmt":"2015-11-24T14:40:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/?p=10949"},"modified":"2015-11-29T20:50:22","modified_gmt":"2015-11-29T20:50:22","slug":"interesting-firewall-rules","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/?p=10949","title":{"rendered":"Interesting firewall rules"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From here, in downtown Shanghai, Google does not exist.<\/p>\n<p>Not in any of its various guises or products.<\/p>\n<p>Gone.<\/p>\n<p>So too is Facebook.<\/p>\n<p>And Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>Also all of the WordPress-hosted websites (fredbloggs.wordpress.com and now I have to check that subdomain doesn&#8217;t exist and if it does that it doesn&#8217;t contain offensive material).<\/p>\n<p>Also missing from the face of the planet, for that matter, is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.masher.tv\/\" target=\"_blank\">your website, young Masher.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>This one does exist, obv.<\/p>\n<p>But I can&#8217;t upload images or media to this, or any other website I control.<\/p>\n<p>I can FTP to them.<\/p>\n<p>I can ssh to the backends.<\/p>\n<p>But all &#8216;put&#8217; and upload commands\/functions are blocked.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, Yahoo works.<\/p>\n<p>So does this mean that Yahoo and I are harmless?<\/p>\n<p>But young Masher* and Google are evil?<\/p>\n<p>Interesting firewall rules are in place.<\/p>\n<p>Non-standard ports work via https.<\/p>\n<p>And configuring port 100001 on a spare domain, opening port 100001 on my firewall and hosting server worked.<\/p>\n<p>I was then able to ssh to the server.<\/p>\n<p>But &#8216;put&#8217; still failed.<\/p>\n<p>No matter what I ran grep with, everything looked and felt normal.<\/p>\n<p>Just no upload functionality.<\/p>\n<p>Interesting firewall rules, for sure.<\/p>\n<p>*I have met the former on a number of occasions, and have to say I believe he lacks evil.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From here, in downtown Shanghai, Google does not exist.
