{"id":11197,"date":"2016-02-14T03:16:16","date_gmt":"2016-02-14T03:16:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/?p=11197"},"modified":"2016-02-13T22:26:37","modified_gmt":"2016-02-13T22:26:37","slug":"blogathon-1416-snapshot-saturday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/?p=11197","title":{"rendered":"Blogathon 14\/16: Happy Birthday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Settle comfortably down, because once again it&#8217;s time for another musical respite from the usual nonsense that goes on in these parts.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday was the birthday of one of my musical heroes.<\/p>\n<p>Born on 13th February 1950, Peter Brian Gabriel has enriched, and brought goodness to my life.<\/p>\n<p>The first Genesis album I bought was Nursery Cryme which, although it wasn&#8217;t a great album, promised such a good future for English Progish Rockish.<\/p>\n<p>I ummed and ahhed about buying the follow-up album, Foxtrot, but knew, within 60 seconds of the needle touching the vinyl, that it was something very special.<\/p>\n<p>Listening to Foxtrot was like the aural equivalent of studying the way that river water is never the same twice.<\/p>\n<p>Foxtrot was followed by another stunning album that, despite charting a steady course through the sea of Prog, still managed to keep mainstream Rock, enough for single releases: Selling England By The Pound.<\/p>\n<p>Possibly the greatest Prog Rock concept album ever to be released followed Selling England By The Pound.<\/p>\n<p>The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway.<\/p>\n<p>Peter Gabriel left Genesis after that album, and went on to carve his name across my musical soul with the albums:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Peter Gabriel (Car)<\/li>\n<li>Peter Gabriel (Scratch)<\/li>\n<li>Peter Gabriel (Melt)<\/li>\n<li>Peter Gabriel (Security)<\/li>\n<li>So<\/li>\n<li>Us<\/li>\n<li>Up<\/li>\n<li>Scratch My Back<\/li>\n<li>New Blood<\/li>\n<li>And I&#8217;ll Scratch Yours<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All quite brilliant.<\/p>\n<p>So Happy Birthday, Peter.<\/p>\n<p>And thanks for this:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Ww9JS8dJ9fY\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Settle comfortably down, because once again it&#8217;s time for another musical respite from the usual nonsense that goes on in these parts.
