{"id":11834,"date":"2016-12-25T19:59:33","date_gmt":"2016-12-25T19:59:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/?p=11834"},"modified":"2016-12-25T19:59:33","modified_gmt":"2016-12-25T19:59:33","slug":"the-end-of-the-road","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/?p=11834","title":{"rendered":"The End of the Road?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Some uncomfortable truths<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>You are dying.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_11835\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-11835\" style=\"width: 730px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-11835\" src=\"https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/Death.jpg\" alt=\"In memoriam\" width=\"730\" height=\"330\" srcset=\"https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/Death.jpg 730w, https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/Death-300x136.jpg 300w, https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/Death-250x113.jpg 250w, https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/Death-150x68.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 730px) 100vw, 730px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-11835\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">In memoriam<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>I am dying.<\/p>\n<p>Your nearest and dearest are dying.<\/p>\n<p>We are all dying.<\/p>\n<p>Since the day we were born (some might say &#8216;since the day we were conceived&#8217;) we have all started out on our final journey.<\/p>\n<p>For some of us the mortality end-game comes along a lot sooner\u00a0than for others.<\/p>\n<p>This year &#8211; 2016 &#8211;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Deaths_in_2016\" target=\"_blank\"> has seen a large number of departures<\/a> from the field of popular culture.<\/p>\n<p>The fields of TV, film, music, literature, and even pop-academia has seen many notable checkouts from this mortal coil.<\/p>\n<p>Yet it is a sad fact that this unfortunate trend will continue in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>When radio and television popularised\u00a0itself in the 1960s, and drew in to focus the publicly-driven worlds of social and pop culture, the media was programming us (us being the population of the early 21st Century), for an upward, and steeply increasing, bell-curve of widespread, heart-felt losses.<\/p>\n<p>I predict that 2017 will see far more checkouts from the world of popular culture.<\/p>\n<p>And 2018 many\u00a0more again.<\/p>\n<p>We don&#8217;t know when we&#8217;re gong to checkout.<\/p>\n<p>But a brush with the checkout desk changes us.<\/p>\n<p>I have been told that I have become more self-centred.<\/p>\n<p>I offer this without comment.<\/p>\n<p>I acknowledge that I have become more emotional, in a &#8216;heart on my sleeve&#8217; kind of way.<\/p>\n<p>And I now look at things (people, situations, events) in much greater detail than previously.<\/p>\n<p>This isn&#8217;t unusual, apparently.<\/p>\n<p>A significant number of heart attack survivors report heightened, post-event, emotional and critical states.<\/p>\n<p>I have no idea what 2017 is going to bring.<\/p>\n<p>There are plans.<\/p>\n<p>But plans are subject to change.<\/p>\n<p>And I can&#8217;t share all of the plans here because secret.<\/p>\n<p>But I can say that I plan on being here all through 2017.<\/p>\n<p>And 2018.<\/p>\n<p>And that I plan on being here far, far in to the future.<\/p>\n<p>I have people to love.<\/p>\n<p>And people to annoy.<\/p>\n<p>And fast motorbikes to ride.<\/p>\n<p>And many, many other plans.<\/p>\n<p>So I&#8217;m going to be here.<\/p>\n<p>A little emotional around the edges, maybe.<\/p>\n<p>But I&#8217;m still going to be inhabiting this mortal coil.<\/p>\n<p>And loving people.<\/p>\n<p>And annoying others.<\/p>\n<p>So yes, as this post started out saying.<\/p>\n<p>Some uncomfortable truths.<\/p>\n<p>Get used to them.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll see you around.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Some uncomfortable truths &nbsp; You are dying.
