Think again&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A cautionary tale about buying a kitchen from IKEA<\/p>\n<p>In the last two years we have had a significant amount of work done in the house.<\/p>\n<p>The last lap, the very last job on the list was the kitchen.<\/p>\n<p>We shopped around (as you do) and eventually we decided on a particular kitchen from IKEA.<\/p>\n<p>Similar, but not exactly identical to this one:<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_12201\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12201\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-12201\" src=\"https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Kitchen-300x153.png\" alt=\"IKEA Kitchen\" width=\"300\" height=\"153\" srcset=\"https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Kitchen-300x153.png 300w, https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Kitchen-768x393.png 768w, https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Kitchen-1024x524.png 1024w, https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Kitchen-250x128.png 250w, https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Kitchen-150x77.png 150w, https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Kitchen.png 1195w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-12201\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">IKEA Kitchen<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The IKEA planner came to the house, took various measurements, and advised us what units and cupboards we could have, and where we could have them.<\/p>\n<p>It was a done deal.<\/p>\n<p>We booked.<\/p>\n<p>The fitters would take one week, we were told.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday 12th June the kitchen fitters rocked up, as planned, and began work.<\/p>\n<p>By Wednesday evening, the old kitchen was piled up outside the garage (completely blocking the car-width doorway, but hey ho, it was only temporary, right?).<\/p>\n<p>The kitchen fitters (a company called Lakers, sub-contracted to do the job for IKEA) told us that they wouldn\u2019t be in tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p>Or Friday.<\/p>\n<p>They had to go on a course.<\/p>\n<p>So we were going to have to endure not having a kitchen for nine days, instead of five?<\/p>\n<p>Yes, that\u2019s right.<\/p>\n<p>Hey ho, it\u2019s only temporary, right?<\/p>\n<p>The kitchen fitters returned on Monday and, by 4pm Tuesday 20th June they had finished.<\/p>\n<p>At 8am the next day (Wednesday 21st June) we discovered water.<\/p>\n<p>The fitted mixer tap was defective, and leaking.<\/p>\n<p>We called the kitchen fitters who turned up that day.<\/p>\n<p>They said we needed a new tap and not to use the old one.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a kitchen tap!<\/p>\n<p>A mixer tap.<\/p>\n<p>In the kitchen!<\/p>\n<p>We are not to use either the hot or cold water tap in the kitchen?<\/p>\n<p>Yes that\u2019s right.
