(I hear you ask).<\/p>\n<p>Well I&#8217;ll tell you.<\/p>\n<p>I recently had a bit of a clear-out at home, and took about 15 DVDs and CDs of licensed OEM (original equipment manufacturer) software in to the office, for my colleagues to help themselves.<\/p>\n<p>How many pieces of (free) software got snapped up by my bargain-seeking colleagues?<\/p>\n<p>None, my friend. Absolutely zero.<\/p>\n<p>Even our software-hungry development manager declined all offers.<\/p>\n<p>His reason?<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I don\u2019t have hardware with a CD or DVD drive any more&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>Well, that made me think.<\/p>\n<p>My music library has 7,528 tracks, and over 60% of those tracks came from CDs.<\/p>\n<p>Now fair enough, these days when I buy mainstream music, I buy online from Amazon.<\/p>\n<p>Usually the music I buy is downloaded materiel (with exceptions when, for specific reasons, I want a physical CD).<\/p>\n<p>So buying music in digital format is not unusual for me.<\/p>\n<p>But what am I going to do with gig music, when I&#8217;ve joined the CD-less drive generation?<\/p>\n<p>What do I do when promising unsigned bands send me a CD they have lovingly crafted in their Nan&#8217;s front room, and I have no CD drive?<\/p>\n<p>I suppose they could always Dropbox me the .mp3s, but that\u2019s not really the point of a physical album, is it?<\/p>\n<p>Anyway.<\/p>\n<p>In sortov related news, I&#8217;m on the cusp of hooking up with a music streaming service.<\/p>\n<p>The full range of choices I&#8217;m considering are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Deezer<\/li>\n<li>Google Play Music<\/li>\n<li>Spotify<\/li>\n<li>Amazon Music Unlimited<\/li>\n<li>Pandora<\/li>\n<li>Slacker<\/li>\n<li>Groove Music and<\/li>\n<li>Apple Music<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There are pros and cons for all of these, but at this stage, nothing is ruled in, nothing is ruled out.<\/p>\n<p>Early days.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It was brought home to me, a couple of weeks ago, just how old I am.
