Yesterday Sam did her second Wolf Run of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A Wolf Run is a 10k cross-country obstacle course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To be clear, it\u2019s not a race (there are no \u2018places\u2019), and\nit\u2019s not really a competition (there are no timed sections, and nothing is\nagainst the clock).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The entrants are just competing against the course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Which, to be fair, is no mean feat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There are four Wolf Runs a year (one for each season),\nand entrants who complete all four in a year are entitled to call themselves \u2018Alpha\nWolfrunners\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Wolfrunning is a popular pursuit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In this weekend\u2019s run there were >8,000 entrants (the\nrun was spread over both days).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It\u2019s a big weekend and, by and large, well organised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There are food stalls, entertainments, amusements for\nnon-entrant members of the family, evening activities and camping available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There is a doctor and first-aid\/medics on site, there are\nambulances on the course, and there are swim-qualified helpers in the various\nwater hazards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I am immensely proud that Sam has completed two Wolf Runs\nthis year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I\u2019m also very proud that Sam did a mini-Wolf Run today,\none day after she did a full run, as she accompanied her daughters on their\nfirst 3k Junior Wolf Run.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
These are stunning achievements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But because I\u2019ve got an enquiring mind, I thought I\u2019d run some numbers (and some of these numbers are best\/worst-guess) on this weekend\u2019s Wolf Run event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There are some estimates in here, and I’ve also left some number out (most noticeably Merch, which is probably hugely profitable), but there are also some hard numbers which would stand up to scrutiny.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
