{"id":12873,"date":"2019-07-20T13:12:26","date_gmt":"2019-07-20T12:12:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/?p=12873"},"modified":"2019-07-19T14:06:24","modified_gmt":"2019-07-19T13:06:24","slug":"your-face-is-your-fortune","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/?p=12873","title":{"rendered":"Your face is your fortune"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>There&#8217;s an app sweeping across the more gullible members of the human race; it&#8217;s called FaceApp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>FaceApp adds some processing to your self-photo, and shows you what you&#8217;re (probably) going to look like in 10, 20, 30 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite the name, FaceApp isn&#8217;t a Facebook utility, and can be used outside of the Facebook platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>FaceApp is provided by a software company in St Petersburg, Russia. I&#8217;m sure they&#8217;re lovely, honest, trustworthy people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anyway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the Terms and Conditions of FaceApp, there are a few concepts that should give us all concern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you use it via Facebook it requires your Facebook login details, but even outside of Facebook it will:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Receive your proper (full) name<\/li><li>Copy your profile picture<\/li><li>Take a copy of your photos (all of them)<\/li><li>Accesses your email address<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, FaceApp says it will share your data with its (unnamed) &#8216;affiliates&#8217;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And, in using FaceApp, you grant the software provider (those nice people in Russia) a perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free licence to use, to adapt, to publish, and to distribute your user content (photos, texts, etc) in all media formats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So that&#8217;s lovely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And I just saw someone (on Facebook) who said &#8216;It&#8217;s alright, I&#8217;ve deleted it now.&#8217;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Except they&#8217;ve still got all of the above information, data, and media from your phone.
