I went into West Bridgford the other day for an eye test. The last one was about 2-1\/2 years ago, so for no other reason than I was slightly overdue I made an appointment and toddled along to Boots Opticians. The pre-eye test stuff involved answering a lot of questions that I already knew the answers to. Name, DOB, address, etc. Then I had to put my face into that thing where they puff little darts of air at your eyeballs. Then I had to put my face into another thing and look at a picture of a little house. The lady then asked if I knew anything about the OCT scanner. I told her I was the project manager who rolled out OCT scanners to every Boots Optician in England and Wales. Anyway, I declined the service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Then I went in to see the optician who was lovely and great fun. ‘Oh,’ she said. ‘I see you had your last eye test in D90? And you saw Richard?’ We had a conversation about Rich and his massive sense of humour. She asked if I still worked at Boots HQ and I said that these days I was self-employed doing jobs around the house. She switched the lights off and we did the ‘Clearer now? Or now?’ thing a lot. Then we did reading ridiculously small letters and then another session of ‘Clearer now? Or now?’.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Anyway, the bottom line is my eyesight has not changed in the last two and a bit years. However… With the assistance of my good lady wife her indoors I am now visiting various websites to buy new glarses. Because I can predict that one day I will lose my hideously expensive spectacles over the side of the boat and that would be curtains. So the plan is that I buy a prescription pair of sunnies, and two spare pairs of ordinary specs (one to wear on the boat and one pair to keep as spare on the boat), and save my Tom Fords for non-boat use.
