I’ve had Fitbit wearable devices for about five years (but it may actually be longer than that). I’ve currently got a Fitbit Versa 3. More than anything else I use it for tracking my daily step count. Related to the daily step count I am a member of a couple of ‘competitive’ groups. We go up against each other’s Daily, Weekly, and Weekend step count challenges. It’s harmless, interesting, and a bit of fun. We can message the other group members about our progress, or take the pee out people who aren’t doing very well.

So in yesterday’s email update from Fitbit the exciting new developments that they’re going to deliver in the next big software upgrade is the complete withdrawal of all Daily, Weekly, and Weekend step count challenges and, obviously, the messaging capability. Well that’s real progress. Obviously not.

Anyway.

I’ve also been considering closing something down’ my geekblog. I no longer ‘do’ geek stuff. Yes, the website exists as a record which people can refer to – and I like that concept. And yes the domain has a couple of email addresses that I hold back as emergency backdoors into a couple of webservices. But my geeky outputs these days are all marine/sea-based. And now, in my heart of hearts, I think I’ve just talked myself out of shutting it down.

Yesterday I got an email from Fitbit telling me about their exciting new developments!
