As I write this in the wee small hours, young Mavis spaniel is deeply asleep beside me, Pugsley spaniel is over there in his chair*, and the log burner is throwing out waves of toasty heat. The other two spanners came downstairs with us, curious as to what I was up to at 02.45, but they soon naffed off back to bed when they realised there was no food in it for them. Mavis, however, has stuck to me like the velcro dog she is, and Pugsley is, I believe, enjoying a toasty belly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’ve unloaded and reloaded the dishwasher, made myself a Lemsip, popped a couple of paracetamol, and coughed and blown my way through a few squares of kitchen towel. I have the colds. It is<\/em> only a cold. I did the ‘stick this cotton bud up your nose, twiddle it about a bit, stick it in this liquid, them drop the liquid onto this little tray’ thing and it came back with a negative result. So yes, it is just a cold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rather than take my coughing body back to bed and disturb the spanners and the good lady wife her indoors, I’m down here, in front of the fire with Mavis and Pugsley, wondering what to do next. Me wondering what to do next, not Mavis nor Pugsley. She’s gently snoring and snuffling and doing what spanners do when they’re asleep. Dreaming of licking her bottom and eating cat poo, I imagine. So too is Pugsley, probably, but with a toasty belly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As well as the domestic jobs, I’ve spent a little time finishing a revamp of the database I’m using to plot and manage the current novel – Hurricane. I’ll export some timeline data and include a screenshot below. I had an intention to write a little, but my head’s too full of stuff to crack on with that. Maybe some of the cotton wool came off the bud thing I shoved up my nose? Or maybe my head is just full of snot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why is it that heroes (heroines) never seem to catch cold? I think I’m going to have to write that in, somewhere. But as far as an update from Mavis, Pugsley, and me goes, I think that’s it for now. The clock’s just ticked past 03.35, so I’m probably going to cuddle up to Mavis and try for a little sleep down here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
