{"id":155,"date":"2007-08-21T21:11:52","date_gmt":"2007-08-21T20:11:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/?p=155"},"modified":"2007-08-21T21:11:52","modified_gmt":"2007-08-21T20:11:52","slug":"the-saddest-thing-about-big-brother-8","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/?p=155","title":{"rendered":"The saddest thing about Big Brother 8&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There are\u00c2\u00a0lots of good, bad, high and low events\u00c2\u00a0in the 2007 bunch of <strike>cnuts<\/strike> Big Brother inmates.<\/p>\n<p>But the saddest thing by far has been exposed by the requirement that housemates read aloud portions of\u00c2\u00a0text printed on cards.<\/p>\n<p>Sam and Tracey;\u00c2\u00a0they&#8217;re at the lowest end of literacy.<\/p>\n<p>Neither of them is a competent, confident, fluid reader.<\/p>\n<p>They stumble over the simplest words.<\/p>\n<p>They are unable to pronounce common words and phrases.<\/p>\n<p>And this, my friends, is the saddest thing about Big Brother 8.<\/p>\n<p>That our schools\u00c2\u00a0&#8211; and the teachers in those schools and the parents of these children who attend these schools\u00c2\u00a0&#8211; are happy to produce young adults to a standard of education that third-world countries surpased a decade ago.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s the really sad thing about Big Brother 8.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>B<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There are\u00c2\u00a0lots of good, bad, high and low events\u00c2\u00a0in the 2007 bunch of cnuts Big Brother inmates.
