The volunteers would go out in their florescent jackets and point a speedgun at vehicles, note registration details and transgressors would become the object of attention by the local division of the rozzers. I threw my name into the hat and somehow I got nominated to be the custodian of hardware and coordinator of people\/events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This week I&#8217;ve handed in my notice and passed the kit back. I just don&#8217;t have the time for that kind of activity any longer. I reckoned I had the equivalent of three days per week, but that&#8217;s been blown out of the water by other &#8211; high priority &#8211; demands on my time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s a shame really. The task is needed. The lane through the village is used as a ratrun by folk who think the mandatory 30mph is optional. There are also several village residents who feel the same way (not to mention one resident who used intimidatory language towards the community speedwatch scheme volunteers, on the village FB page &#8211; see below). What a lovely man.
