The cross-channel motorcycle trip was booked and paid for. So was the return leg. The first two hotels were booked and paid for. The other accommodations were going to be booked ad hoc<\/em> on the required day. A motorcycle trip around Northern France had been planned and was being looked forward to. Oh yes. And then, 24 hours before departure, Pugsley got hit by a car. He was in a bad way, poor love and the plan instantly changed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thoughts of France receded rapidly while I whisked young Pugsley off to the vet (the incident occurred at 08.15) where they did all the good stuff that vets do. Much later Pugsley was transported to the veterinary hospital where he had overnight care and I\/V meds and pain relief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The next day he came home, full of drugs (and with a bag full of drugs), partially shaved, and a hind leg stitched. He wasn’t a very happy little dog. Thoughts of France receded even further.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A few days later Pugsley was beginning to get to a close approximation of his old self. He resumed ‘talking’ again (it’s a thing he does) and was beginning to bounce around the house (it’s another thing he does).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anyway, a few days later and with Pugsley continuing his improvement, the live-in dog-sitter felt able to continue dishing out his meds, so a consolation medium length break in York was booked. The Grand Hotel (in York, obviously) is indeed very grand. The food was wonderful, the service was attentive, and the accommodation was very nice indeed thank you. I’m struggling with photos from York. Give me a while and I’ll sort it out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once back home, preparations were immediately made for a week-long stay in a cabin in the middle of a forest in Scotland. Not many days later the car – full by every description known to mankind – made its way north. The accommodation was indeed a cabin, but such a luxurious one and kitted out with all of the mod cons one could imagine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s safe to say we all loved it (though by Wednesday the dogs were beginning to look distinctly worn out – can you imagine that? Four worn out spaniels?).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, while in Scotland, Wild Water Swimming occurred in a huge natural reservoir. The water was so cold my nipples still hurt. But I went there, got in, swam about, got out and eventually (after a bunch of hours) was up to normal temperature. I may come back and add gratuitous photos. Or may not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And now we’re all back and in our regular routines once again. On Saturday the Ninja and I went down to the Long Itch Diner to meet a Viking who turned out not to be an actual Viking (that’ll teach me to make assumptions!). The meal was good and despite not being an actual Viking, the company was also good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And that’s where we are right now. Except I’ve dropped my phone and broken the screen for the second time in a couple of weeks because I’m a dickhead. But I’ve got a cunning plan to deal with that.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
