I switch around depending on my mood. Classic FM, Greatest Hits Radio (aka Radio 2-ish), and Capital are my most-listened to products. The downside of them all is they’re commercial radio stations, but that’s a small price to pay for listening to a range of music I enjoy.

Well.

There’s another downside.

The commercials tend to be a bit bonkers and by that I mean the targeting frequently goes awry. Just yesterday an advert popped up on Greatest Hits Radio which advised me to nip down to Bicester Village because (and I quote), “it’s just a short drive away”.

What? Has someone moved this part of Nottinghamshire to that Dahn Sarf or, worse, moved that Darn Sarf to the East Midlands?

Well, I checked the map and, no, Bicester Village is still where it always has been. So too is this part of the East Midlands. Therefore the obvious thing is someone, somewhere, is so isolated from reality they consider a 3-hour 40-minute round-trip to be (and I quote again), “… just a short drive…”

Yeah, it isn’t.
