Week 1 it’s the grey (household) bin. Week 2 it’s the blue (recycling bin) and the green (garden waste) bin. Week 3 it’s the grey (household) AND the purple glass recycling bin. Week 4 brings us back to the blue (recycling) bin and the green (garden waste) bin, and so on, ad infinitum.

For the last I don’t know how many years, on the evening before recycling collection, I’ve got a step-ladder out, climbed up it, and stepped into the recycling bin and stomped about as if I was treading grapes in the Loire valley. Why? Because we are heavy recyclers. We regularly generate 1-1/2 bin-worth of recycling material. Less general waste than a lot of people, but more recycling than a lot of people.

Well, all that has changed. No longer will I be climbing a step-ladder to stomp about in the already full recycling bin. Why’s that (I hear you ask)? Well, we now have a second recycling bin! The joy, last week, when I put out 2 blue recycling bins was indescribable. One bin was full, the other was half-full. Yes indeed, we have found recycling bin nirvana here. And our little bit of the world is a better place for it.

Our bin collection is Friday mornings. Week 1 it’s the grey (household) bin.
