Yesterday’s not occurring visit to compete at Hartpury being a case of the latter.<\/p>\n
While I was taking the lorry back to the yard yesterday evening the steering became heavier than normal.<\/p>\n
On tight corners (roundabouts etc) there was a graunchy noise from beneath the cab and a vibration up through the steering wheel.<\/p>\n
When I parked up I saw the lorry was losing crimson fluid from just behind the cylinder block, so I called Gary the excellent mobile mechanic who looks after the horsebox for me. I described the symptoms, he said he’d look at it and let me know. I also asked him to look at the driver’s door for me as it looked as though it might have dropped 1cm.<\/p>\n
Today he sent me a text: Driver’s door done. You’ve got a split in the power steering feed. I’ve ordered a new pipe to be made, I’ll fit it tomorrow.<\/p>\n
Brilliant.<\/p>\n
But I’m so glad that I didn’t go to Hartpury because wrestling a 10-ton lorry up and down the roads with no power steering is absolutely NOT my idea of fun!<\/p>\n
