This is a test piece of writing…<\/em><\/p>\n

It\u2019s been said many times before, that the most intimidating thing, for a writer, is a blank page.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s cobblers.<\/p>\n

The most intimidating thing in the world, for a writer, is the audience as it leaves the theatre, having just watched a comedy show that includes pieces you\u2019ve written.<\/p>\n

\u2018Keep your friends close, but keep your underwear closer\u2019.<\/p>\n

The audience laughed at that, it\u2019s one of mine. The laughter made me feel good.<\/p>\n

\u2018You want me to give financial support to a campaign to promote teenaged abstinence? Can I say that as someone who experienced being a teenager ten years ago, I\u2019ve already given teenaged abstinence seven years of practical support? They don\u2019t need my fucking money as well.\u2019<\/p>\n

That\u2019s another of mine. The amusement rippled around the room. I felt intimidated by the amused rippling, but I loved the clever double entendre<\/em>. Even if I wrote it.<\/p>\n

\u2018Am I the only person here who feels that \u2018Judge Judy\u2019 feels like a command that should be followed with the shout: \u2018Guilty!\u2019?\u2019<\/p>\n

You could have heard a pin drop after that one. Too sophisticated for Leeds, I thought.<\/p>\n

The difficult thing with being a comedy writer is rotating the comedy from inside my imagination, out on to a piece of paper. Several dozen pieces of paper.<\/p>\n

My life is a riot of funnies. I am actually the funniest guy I know \u00e2\u20ac\u201c and I know some really funny guys.<\/p>\n

But getting my native funniness from inside me head to out there, and doing it in a form that\u2019s still funny, is the most intimidating, the most difficult thing I\u2019ve ever experienced.<\/p>\n

Just this morning my wife, in fits of giggles, pleaded with me, \u2018Don\u2019t make me laugh!\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018Why not?\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018I can\u2019t push if I\u2019m laughing\u2019.<\/p>\n

She was on the toilet. Having a poo.<\/p>\n

You have to agree it takes a special kind of person to make a woman have fits of giggles. Whilst she\u2019s on the toilet.<\/p>\n
