We’re gearing up for the Eventing season, me and Vin.<\/p>\n
Well, when I say ‘we’ what I really mean is:<\/p>\n
* I have been making lists of Events that are within our geographical boundaries then,<\/p>\n
* Narrowing that list down to those within our grasp of competency (i.e. deleting Gatcombe, Burghley, Blenheim, Badminton) and,<\/p>\n
* Sitting around having minor fantasies about coming over the last fence at Longleat with 8.6 seconds on the clock – having already achieved a double-clear show jumping and an unbeatable dressage score of 14.6 penalties while<\/p>\n
* Vin has been standing around in his field wondering when that weird bloke is going to turn up next and inflict all kinds of work on him when,<\/p>\n
* He’d really rather just stand around in the field eating his head off, sleeping and playing with his field-mates like a one-year-old colt.<\/p>\n
Tonight we’ll school – flatwork – concentrating on walk to canter and canter to walk transitions as well as collecting and lengthening the canter stride and establishing a better quality of balance.<\/p>\n
Saturday will probably be more of the same.<\/p>\n
Sunday too.<\/p>\n
And whichever nights I ride next week.<\/p>\n
But next weekend?<\/p>\n
Oh boy is he in for a shock.<\/p>\n
Unbeknownst to my food-oriented but very<\/em> talented ex-racehorse, next weekend he and I are off for a cross country training session with Matt Ryan.<\/p>\n It isn’t every day that one gets the opportunity to train with a triple-Olympic Gold Medal winner.<\/p>\n Don’t get me wrong, William’s very good (but lives too far away) and Jo is very good but is just a touch… too nice.<\/p>\n I know of Matt; being ‘too nice’ isn’t something that Vin and I will have to worry about. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n B<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" We’re gearing up for the Eventing season, me and Vin.
