{"id":4512,"date":"2011-01-23T18:28:04","date_gmt":"2011-01-23T18:28:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/?p=4512"},"modified":"2011-01-23T18:31:06","modified_gmt":"2011-01-23T18:31:06","slug":"nice-arrers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/?p=4512","title":{"rendered":"Nice arrers!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have been doing further thinking on my quest to find new &#8216;instant hit&#8217; TV shows.<\/p>\n<p>Following on from last week&#8217;s &#8216;<a title=\"Antiques Roadshow Rewind\" href=\"https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/?p=4490\" target=\"_blank\">Antique Roadshow Rewind<\/a>&#8216;, this week I&#8217;d like to look at the semi-sporting world of pub games.<\/p>\n<p>In particular, darts.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/wp-content\/Darts1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-4513\" title=\"Darts1\" src=\"https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/wp-content\/Darts1-300x226.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"226\" srcset=\"https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Darts1-300x226.jpg 300w, https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Darts1.jpg 348w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The <span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">sport<\/span> game of Darts is, to the outsider, <span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">a bit tame<\/span> totally fucking tedious.<\/p>\n<p>But how to liven up the spectacle of two men (who may or may not be seriously overweight) throwing Lilliputian javelins at a glorified RAF roundel?<\/p>\n<p>My first thought was &#8216;Rottweilers!&#8217; How about two darts players, in a cage, throwing for the highest score against the clock?<\/p>\n<p>The mad-as-a-box-of-snakes Rottweilers are held at bay by a gate that is on a timer.<\/p>\n<p>Both darts players would be harnessed up to a safety rig and, as the clock counts down to the last second, the player with the highest score gets whisked up out of the pit&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/wp-content\/Safety-harness.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-4514\" title=\"Safety harness\" src=\"https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/wp-content\/Safety-harness-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Safety-harness-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Safety-harness.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As the door to the Rottweiler&#8217;s cage drops, leaving the loser to a messy fate.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/wp-content\/Rottweiler.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4517\" title=\"Rottweiler\" src=\"https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/wp-content\/Rottweiler.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"172\" height=\"256\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>But then I thought &#8216;Nah, that wouldn&#8217;t work. The RSPCA would complain about something&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>So I started looking for a threat that would bring escalating levels of excitement.<\/p>\n<p>A threat that would bring danger, tension and, yes, television ratings &#8211; to an otherwise dull spectacle.<\/p>\n<p>And one that wouldn&#8217;t jeopardise any animals.<\/p>\n<p>It came to me.<\/p>\n<p>A compression chamber should be used as the setting for &#8216;Dart Explosion!&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>We put our two dartists in to a large compression\/decompression chamber. They have 90-seconds to achieve the highest score, and as the countdown gets closer and closer to the conclusion, the oxygen is pumped out of the compression chamber!<\/p>\n<p>A hatch will open in front of the winner and they&#8217;ll get an oxygen mask.
