{"id":4798,"date":"2011-04-11T08:15:50","date_gmt":"2011-04-11T07:15:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/?p=4798"},"modified":"2011-04-10T23:01:20","modified_gmt":"2011-04-10T22:01:20","slug":"the-frustration-is-going-to-kill-someone","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/?p=4798","title":{"rendered":"The frustration is going to kill someone"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Most mornings I drive across country and pick up the A420 trunk road, where I make a right-turn (head west).<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re not too familiar with this corner of the countryside, the A420 trunk road is the only arterial road that connects the city of Oxford with Swindon (and with the city of Bristol, beyond).<\/p>\n<p>Significant stretches of the A420 are national speed limit dual-carriageway (70mph).<\/p>\n<p>Other parts of the road are national speed limit single-carriageway (60mph).<\/p>\n<p>In a few places the speed limit is lowered to 50mph.<\/p>\n<p>The four-mile stretch in to Swindon is that &#8211; 50mph, single lane traffic in both directions.<\/p>\n<p>Except.<\/p>\n<p>Except most days I get to a point on that road where, even at 6.50am, the traffic suddenly bunches right up because the speed has dropped to&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>13mph.<\/p>\n<p>Thirteen. Miles. Per Hour.<\/p>\n<p>Why?<\/p>\n<p>Why is the entire westwards traffic flow suddenly reduced from 50mph to 13mph?<\/p>\n<p>Because of one of these:<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4799\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4799\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-4799\" href=\"https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/?attachment_id=4799\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4799\" title=\"Trike\" src=\"https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/wp-content\/\/Trike-300x190.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"190\" srcset=\"https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Trike-300x190.jpg 300w, https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Trike.jpg 487w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4799\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">posed by a model<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Well, when I say &#8216;because of one of these&#8217;, what I really mean is &#8216;because we encounter one of these being ridden on the road&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>The tricycle, being significantly wider than a bicycle, coupled with the single lines of traffic in both directions, means that the humble motorist &#8211; every single one of us &#8211; have to slow down because of one person riding a tricycle.<\/p>\n<p>Tricyclist.<\/p>\n<p>Whatever he&#8217;s called.<\/p>\n<p>So, to sum up, the daily traffic blockage, being one man on his tricycle, reduces the flow of traffic on a major arterial trunk road from 50mph to strangulation point.<\/p>\n<p>This guy adversely affects the routine journey of several hundred motorists.<\/p>\n<p>Every. Single. Day.<\/p>\n<p>My question is simple.<\/p>\n<p>What position does a person&#8217;s mental compass have to be pointing at, for such antisocial behaviour to become acceptable?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Most mornings I drive across country and pick up the A420 trunk road, where I make a right-turn (head west).
