Tomorrow morning we’re due to shake ourselves free from San Francisco and head eastwards.<\/p>\n

While in town we have been utter tourists.<\/p>\n

Open-topped bus trip across the Golden Gate Bridge?<\/p>\n

Check.<\/p>\n

Boat trip out to – and tour of – Alcatraz?<\/p>\n

Check.<\/p>\n

Cable-car ride up and down the steep hills?<\/p>\n

Check.<\/p>\n

Fisherman’s Wharf?<\/p>\n

Check.<\/p>\n

City Lights Bookstore?<\/p>\n

Check.<\/p>\n

Break Soph’s ankle whilst competing in a Jive competition?<\/p>\n

Check.<\/p>\n

Well, no.<\/p>\n

Not really.<\/p>\n

The ankle isn’t quite broken.<\/p>\n

It’s not even hanging on by a few tendons.<\/p>\n

It is, however, bruised.<\/p>\n

Awww…<\/p>\n

And we weren’t taking part in a dance competition of any kind.<\/p>\n

We were walking.<\/p>\n

I may have mentioned how much walking we’ve been doing since we got here?<\/p>\n

Well now it seems I have a cast-iron excuse to do a lot less of it.<\/p>\n

As I type this Soph is sitting in a chair, ankle elevated and wearing a cold compress, to try and remove the worst of the bruise.<\/p>\n

I bought two new pairs of Levis today, from the Levis shop, obv.<\/p>\n

It pains me to admit that my waist size is now a 34″.<\/p>\n

I am distraught.<\/p>\n

I know you are too.<\/p>\n

I would like to tell you that my increased girthage (wahay!) is nothing to do with today’s discovery of The Best Dessert Ever…<\/p>\n

We watched a little of the Royal Wedding coverage this morning, before we went out.<\/p>\n

ABCs coverage was fronted by two American biddies who clearly didn’t have a clue why they were in front of the camera or what was going on.<\/p>\n

Neither of them knew who Zara Philips was, when a Brit guest raised her name.<\/p>\n

It was a little like watching Statler and Waldorf, the two old boys off of The Muppets.<\/p>\n

But in drag, obv.<\/p>\n

After a couple of minutes we’d cried so much with laughter that we flipped over to CNN, where their coverage was being fronted by Piers Moron.<\/p>\n

I can tell you how quickly I can hit the ‘off’ switch, but then I’d have to kill you.<\/p>\n

Still, it could have been worse.<\/p>\n

I hear that, possibly attributable to a last-minute sickness, or a decision-maker doing too much acid the previous day, the BBC put Fearne Cotton in front of the public for vox pop<\/em> interviews.<\/p>\n
