{"id":5243,"date":"2011-06-23T20:40:18","date_gmt":"2011-06-23T19:40:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/?p=5243"},"modified":"2011-06-23T20:40:18","modified_gmt":"2011-06-23T19:40:18","slug":"unsocial-networking","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/?p=5243","title":{"rendered":"Unsocial networking"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>LinkedIn<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Seriously, what&#8217;s the point of it?<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s just another channel through which recruitment consultants can send me spam.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m thinking of bailing out of it.<\/p>\n<p>It seems to be a business version of Facebook.<\/p>\n<p>Equally pointless, lacking drive, devoid of direction and without a real sense of purpose.<\/p>\n<p>Yep, just another version of Facebook.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Twitter<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>I love Twitter, almost as much as I love blogging.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve just had a massive cull of my Twitter followers because, in my weird world where my rules apply, it&#8217;s social networking.<\/p>\n<p>If we don&#8217;t interact on Twitter, we&#8217;re not doing it right.<\/p>\n<p>And that&#8217;s not what I&#8217;m about.<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t believe that Twitter is a one-way channel of communication.<\/p>\n<p>So why would people start to follow someone, and never say &#8216;hello&#8217;?<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t get that.<\/p>\n<p>No, really, I don&#8217;t understand why someone would set up an account with a social network tool and then choose to not interact.<\/p>\n<p>So I deploy the &#8216;block&#8217; button.<\/p>\n<p>Boom!<\/p>\n<p>Gone.<\/p>\n<p>And when someone new follows me I check them out.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll scope out their timeline, make sure s\/he is a real person.<\/p>\n<p>And then I&#8217;ll follow them back.<\/p>\n<p>Because that&#8217;s being social.<\/p>\n<p>Right?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>LinkedIn.
