{"id":531,"date":"2008-05-12T15:30:09","date_gmt":"2008-05-12T15:30:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/?p=531"},"modified":"2008-05-12T15:30:09","modified_gmt":"2008-05-12T15:30:09","slug":"the-other-side-to-the-weekend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/?p=531","title":{"rendered":"The other side to the weekend"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The other side to the weekend was spent fixing my bloody iPod.<\/p>\n<p>Mid-week it stopped behaving as it should.<\/p>\n<p>The registry\/index somehow broke down; when I sync&#8217;d it to iTunes the iTunes display told me fibs (namely that the 30Gb iPod was full).<\/p>\n<p>But when I tried to navigate away from the central iPod page in iTunes the display froze and only a CTL-ALT-DEL and &#8216;stop iTunes process&#8217; would give me back control of my laptop.<\/p>\n<p>Bloody thing.<\/p>\n<p>I tried multiple resyncs and they all returned the same results.<\/p>\n<p>I manually rebooted the iPod but that didn&#8217;t get me anywhere.<\/p>\n<p>So I protected the 5Gb of music and 10Gb of data files I keep on my iPod and then tried to restore the thing to factory default settings.<\/p>\n<p>Tried to.<\/p>\n<p>Yep, every time I plugged it in it did the &#8216;resyncing&#8217; thing and then froze and there was no way to over-ride it.<\/p>\n<p>So I opened an explorer session on to the iPod, took a deep breath and deleted the control directory.<\/p>\n<p>Then I fired up iTunes and guess what?<\/p>\n<p>Straight away it started presenting me with &#8216;Oh-oh, Something&#8217;s Really Fucked Around Here!&#8217; error messages.<\/p>\n<p>And then it got on with the business of resetting itself to factory defaults.<\/p>\n<p>That didn&#8217;t take long at all, but then it started importing the previous iTunes contents.<\/p>\n<p>That took several hours!<\/p>\n<p>But the whole programme of processes worked.<\/p>\n<p>My iTunes is healthy, my iPod is healthy and the world is sweetness and light once more.<\/p>\n<p>Yay!<\/p>\n<p>Total processing time expended on iPod reconfiguration: 27 hours.<\/p>\n<p>But it&#8217;s back up and running so I&#8217;m not going to complain too loudly.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>B<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The other side to the weekend was spent fixing my bloody iPod.
