{"id":605,"date":"2008-06-23T19:08:03","date_gmt":"2008-06-23T18:08:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/?p=605"},"modified":"2008-06-23T21:30:49","modified_gmt":"2008-06-23T20:30:49","slug":"networking-nomenclature","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/?p=605","title":{"rendered":"Networking Nomenclature"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So here we are, my friends, in the house in Brixton.<\/p>\n<p>Nice, isn&#8217;t it?<\/p>\n<p>Huuuuuuge modern kitchen, yes indeed.<\/p>\n<p>A garden, with much greenery and table and chairs (where, as you can see, I&#8217;m currently reposing).<\/p>\n<p>Can I say that?<\/p>\n<p>Reposing?<\/p>\n<p>In context I mean?<\/p>\n<p>Anyway.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m out here making myself comfy.<\/p>\n<p>The suitcase is unpacked.<\/p>\n<p>The food shopping has been put away.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m thinking about a cup of tea.<\/p>\n<p>If I think hard enough, will one materialise on the table in front of me?<\/p>\n<p>[strains]<\/p>\n<p>No, I didn&#8217;t think so.<\/p>\n<p>But it was worth a go.<\/p>\n<p>Ooh, ooh, ooh!<\/p>\n<p>I bought an Oyster card today.<\/p>\n<p>I found out that it actually has nothing to do with cruelty to oysters which, as a card-carrying vegetarian I wholeheartedly approve.<\/p>\n<p>Sigh.<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t be bonkers.<\/p>\n<p>I meant, obv, that I wholeheartedly approve of <em>not<\/em> being cruel to oysters.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway.<\/p>\n<p>It (the Oyster card), allows me to travel on the London transport system.<\/p>\n<p>For a fee.<\/p>\n<p>So actually, &#8216;allows me to travel&#8217; is dangerously close to being not 100% correct, in a factual kind of way.<\/p>\n<p>But anyway.<\/p>\n<p>More London stuff later.<\/p>\n<p>Back to the here and now.<\/p>\n<p>Tea still not made.<\/p>\n<p>Either variety of the word &#8211; liquid or solid.<\/p>\n<p>Pasta and tomato and mushroom sauce tonight.<\/p>\n<p>I bought the ingredients lunchtime.<\/p>\n<p>Which wasn&#8217;t the reason for this post.<\/p>\n<p>See?<\/p>\n<p>You didn&#8217;t think there were reasons behind any of my posts, did you?<\/p>\n<p>Ha!<\/p>\n<p>The only thing I&#8217;m missing right now (apart from tea &#8211; either variety which, actually, makes this sentence gramatically imperfect but hey, live with it dude!) is&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>An internet connection.<\/p>\n<p>Yes I know, there&#8217;s one upstairs in the office.<\/p>\n<p>But I&#8217;m used to the lazy version, the non-wire version.<\/p>\n<p>The &#8216;you can have broadband wherever you go&#8217; variety.<\/p>\n<p>My laptop tells me there&#8217;s lots of them around here.<\/p>\n<p>But they don&#8217;t belong to this house so I&#8217;m going to ignore them.<\/p>\n<p>But their names pop up in my WiFi detection box.<\/p>\n<p>And that&#8217;s the reason for this post.<\/p>\n<p>Hence the name, geddit?<\/p>\n<p>Which leads me to names.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s some of the best of the local (private) WiFi networks that are registering on my radar right now&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>aseriesoftubes<\/strong><br \/>\nDude, we stopped using vacuum tubes in electronic gear about fifty years ago! If your WiFi gear is actually composed of a series of tubes&#8230; well&#8230; I just don&#8217;t believe it. Of course, you could be talking about yourself I guess. Which would make the name more or less correct.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bristol City<\/strong><br \/>\nDude, dude, dude, dude&#8230; Brixton. Not Bristol. Pay attention at the back. B.R.I.X.T.O.N. C&#8217;mon! Keep with it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Crafty<\/strong><br \/>\nIs that in an arty crafty kind of way? Or a Fagin kind of way? I need to know and I need to know right now!<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s enough WiFi names for now.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps I&#8217;ll do more later.<\/p>\n<p>Or&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps I&#8217;ll write about a whole different subject later.<\/p>\n<p>Names of types of pasta, for example?<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>B<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So here we are, my friends, in the house in Brixton.
