Oh yeah.<\/p>\n

Tedium.<\/p>\n

Not Te Deum<\/em>, that’s entirely different.<\/p>\n

Chuckles to self.<\/p>\n

Ho hu… <\/p>\n

Did she just say what I thought she said?<\/p>\n

Must concentrate more.<\/p>\n

Ah, no.<\/p>\n

No-one else has edged forward on to their chairs, no-one sniggering behind their notepads.<\/p>\n

Must have misheard.<\/p>\n

Bit tired.<\/p>\n

Last night’s 18.00 meeting didn’t end until 19.10.<\/p>\n

Got out of the building at 19.15 (just in time to rescue my car from the Cheap’n’Cheerful\u00e2\u201e\u00a2 vehicle-leaving-place before it closed at 19.30. ‘\u00a325 fee for after-hours services<\/em>‘, as the notice on the wall says).<\/p>\n

Pauses briefly to wonder what services the Cheap’n’Cheerful vehicle-leaving-place Old Lady might provide, in an ‘after-hours’ kind of way.<\/p>\n

Eeeww… <\/p>\n

Beginning to feel ill.<\/p>\n

Move on.<\/p>\n

Ummm, sorry.<\/p>\n

What was it?<\/p>\n

Oh yeah, inability to concentrate on… <\/p>\n

God I feel sick in a hollow kind of way; haven’t eaten enough today.<\/p>\n

Looks out of the window and thinks some very rude thoughts.<\/p>\n

Can’t help it.<\/p>\n

It’s in my genes.<\/p>\n

Or jeans, maybe.<\/p>\n

I used to know a girl called Jean.<\/p>\n

I think I went out with her.<\/p>\n

Twice.<\/p>\n

I was at that awkward stage (virgin) and she couldn’t really be bothered anyway.<\/p>\n

I was 20.<\/p>\n

Yeah, I know; late starter.<\/p>\n

Oh yes, entirely, Mike.<\/p>\n

And if we concentrate more on the process mapping whilst looking for quick wins in the corporate banking application arena, whilst concentrating on the foreign exchange division… <\/p>\n

That’s pretty bloody annoying.<\/p>\n

The way she flicks her hair back over her shoulder like that.<\/p>\n

“Oh, I only got an intermediate because of a lack of imagination in behavioural repetition.<\/em>”<\/p>\n

Chuckles quietly again.<\/p>\n

Briefly wonder what the girl from the international currency division looks like with no clothes on.<\/p>\n

Just out of curiosity, honest!<\/p>\n

Genes again.<\/p>\n

Prefer 501s.<\/p>\n

This is interminable.<\/p>\n

International Corporate Banking on a Thursday lunchtime.<\/p>\n

Are the people who schedule these meetings mad?<\/p>\n

Come to think of it, how could they be sane?<\/p>\n

Wherever sanity ends I know which side of the line ICB sits!<\/p>\n

Buggerit.<\/p>\n

What did she say?<\/p>\n

Really, what did she say then?<\/p>\n

Foreign Exchange interest rate swaps with which currency?<\/p>\n

Last time I missed the point in an ICB meeting I went out and swapped \u00a3500 million with IKR.<\/p>\n

We had to buy a fish processing factory in Reykjavik because swapping that much money back would have cost us more in commission than the purchase price of the factory.<\/p>\n

Felt a bit foolish for weeks after that one.<\/p>\n

Oh.<\/p>\n

That’s what she said.<\/p>\n

Must learn to concentrate harder.<\/p>\n
