{"id":7162,"date":"2012-03-19T00:32:23","date_gmt":"2012-03-19T00:32:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/?p=7162"},"modified":"2012-03-19T00:39:18","modified_gmt":"2012-03-19T00:39:18","slug":"on-beating-the-jet-lag-thing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/?p=7162","title":{"rendered":"On beating the jet-lag thing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I had to cut short my visit to Austin, TX, to start a new contract on Monday 19th March.<\/p>\n<p>The ever-present problem of time-zone adjustment and jet-lag is a bit of a bugger.<\/p>\n<p>When I flew back from LA last summer, the jet-lag wrecked four solid days; this time I thought I&#8217;d get right on top of the problem.<\/p>\n<p>And I have.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s how:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Thursday, Austin, Texas:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Up at 9.30<\/li>\n<li>Busy and full day<\/li>\n<li>Busy and full evening<\/li>\n<li>Busy and full night until 2.30am<\/li>\n<li>DO NOT SLEEP AT ALL TODAY<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Friday, Austin, Texas:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2.30am, catch a taxi back to the hotel<\/li>\n<li>Pack<\/li>\n<li>Check out<\/li>\n<li>Catch a taxi to the airport<\/li>\n<li>Check in at the airline desk<\/li>\n<li>Go through TSA\/Customs<\/li>\n<li>Sit in the departure lounge and read<\/li>\n<li>Board the flight to Chicago<\/li>\n<li>Read some more<\/li>\n<li>Allow yourself two hours sleep<\/li>\n<li>Arrive Chicago<\/li>\n<li>Make my way to the appropriate departure lounge<\/li>\n<li>Read a little more<\/li>\n<li>Board the flight to London<\/li>\n<li>Read lots<\/li>\n<li>Write lots of notes<\/li>\n<li>Listen to music<\/li>\n<li>Arrive Heathrow (10.40pm)<\/li>\n<li>Go through passport control<\/li>\n<li>Collect suitcase<\/li>\n<li>Go through customs<\/li>\n<li>Pick up car<\/li>\n<li>Do a little shopping at a 24-hour Tesco<\/li>\n<li>Drive home<\/li>\n<li>APART FROM THOSE TWO HOURS, DO NOT SLEEP AT ALL TODAY<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Saturday, Witney, Oxfordshire<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Arrive home (2am)<\/li>\n<li>Put the shopping away<\/li>\n<li>Unpack<\/li>\n<li>Have a snack<\/li>\n<li>Go to bed<\/li>\n<li>Read until dozy<\/li>\n<li>Sleep (4 hours)<\/li>\n<li>Get up at 8.30am<\/li>\n<li>Have a full and active day\/evening<\/li>\n<li>Go to bed at 11.30pm<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Sunday, Witney, Oxfordshire<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Wake at 9.30am<\/li>\n<li>Have a full and normal day because (tada!) you are back on UK time<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Simples.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I had to cut short my visit to Austin, TX, to start a new contract on Monday 19th March.
