I arrived at the house on the fourth successive Saturday morning – toolkit in hand once again.<\/p>\n

But this time I had the *second* replacement mixer cartridge component.<\/p>\n

Honour needed to be restored!<\/p>\n

I slumped in to the bathroom, shut off the water and<\/p>\n

removed the faceplate<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

removed the water flow control<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

removed the outer temperature control arm<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

removed and dismantled the mixer control gears<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

cut the waterproof sealant, and removed the backing plate from the wall.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Using the same BluTack and long screwdriver Mission Impossible technique, I carefully removed the screws on the brass cover.<\/p>\n

Then I worked the mixing cartridge out of its seat and through the tiny gap.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I put the new cartridge in to the backing plate.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

It slid straight in.<\/p>\n

I reassembled the shower.<\/p>\n

The BluTack\/Mission Impossible\/gynaecologist\/watch-maker\/screws through a tiny gap thing was more nerve-wracking than ever.<\/p>\n

My hands shook.<\/p>\n

With everything back in place I switched the mains water supply back on, put water back in the system and…<\/p>\n

Listened to the…<\/p>\n

Nothing.<\/p>\n

Silence.<\/p>\n

No dripping at all.<\/p>\n

I adjusted the temperature and water flow, then turned the shower off.<\/p>\n

Nothing.<\/p>\n

Absolutely zero drippage.<\/p>\n

Elapsped time on this visit?<\/p>\n

90 minutes.<\/p>\n

Honour restored.<\/p>\n

And the shower owner thinks I’m pretty bloody magnificent.<\/p>\n

Next time, no matter how pretty the face, no matter how distressed the maiden?<\/p>\n

She can get a plumber.<\/p>\n

Seriously.<\/p>\n
