It has built up a tremendous number of listeners in less than a year and while that’s very gratifying, I find it’s easy to become inhibited by its success.

It’s a little like writing. Once you’ve found a formula that works for you, the temptation to take risks – or stray outside the comfort zone that has been established – almost vanishes.

You want to play it safe because that’s your area of success. This week though, I’ve decided to step right outside the comfort zone.

I need to rant about the dire state of radio in London and that gives me the perfect excuse to begin with a mental thrash metal band from Birmingham – Sienna.

Quite how I link that to the pop/folk image of Akiva, a guy I found on Twitter, I don’t know, but the challenge is there to be done.

Then there’s a very talented young guy named Ben P who performs under the name Rural Roots; easily the best British urban/rap artist I’ve heard. Think about it for a moment. How many good British urban/rap acts can you name? Yeah, quite.

It’s going to be a challenge to knit these diverse genres together, but that’s my job. Their job is just to do their thing.

Regular listeners can tell that I’m actually trying to do some prep for this one! 🙂

B.

I’ve spent this morning’s journey in to London thinking about this weekend’s podcast and the podcast in general.
