{"id":86,"date":"2007-07-16T10:58:24","date_gmt":"2007-07-16T09:58:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/?p=86"},"modified":"2012-05-05T10:20:21","modified_gmt":"2012-05-05T09:20:21","slug":"film-review-shrek-the-third","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/?p=86","title":{"rendered":"Film review: Shrek The Third"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Many people are apparently labouring under the misapprehension \u00e2\u20ac\u201c because of a generous certification &#8211; that Shrek The Third is a children&#8217;s film.<\/p>\n<p>It isn&#8217;t.<\/p>\n<p>What child would get the soundtrack and the way it was used (<em>Do You Remember Rock n&#8217; Roll<\/em> by The Ramones, Led Zeppelin&#8217;s <em>Immigrant Song<\/em>, the beautifully sardonic use of <em>Live and Let Die<\/em> &#8211; so ironically sung by a chorus of frogs &#8211;\u00a0 the Wings version of course, not Guns n&#8217; Roses, or Damien Rice&#8217;s <em>Nine Crimes<\/em>)?<\/p>\n<p>What child would get the deliciously pervy exchanges (the one between Prince Charming and Rapunzel is a great example)?<\/p>\n<p>What child would get the cinematic references (<em>Singin&#8217; in the Rain<\/em>, <em>The Sound of Music<\/em> &#8211; beautifully done by Julie Andrews!, <em>Midnight Cowboy<\/em>, <em>Monty Python &#038; The Holy Grail<\/em> &#8211; or was it <em>Spamalot<\/em>? &#8211; <em>A Chorus Line<\/em> and <em>The Truman Show<\/em>&#8230; oh yeah, and <em>Rosemary&#8217;s Baby\/The Exorcist<\/em>)?<\/p>\n<p>The story&#8217;s a little weak in places but it&#8217;s still an enjoyable romp.<\/p>\n<p>If you can think of a better way to spend a Sunday afternoon (out of the bedroom), do it.<\/p>\n<p>But Shrek The Third is a fun, entertaining way to pass time in the company of someone you love.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Brennig<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Many people are apparently labouring under the misapprehension \u00e2\u20ac\u201c because of a generous certification &#8211; that Shrek The Third is a children&#8217;s film.
