{"id":94,"date":"2007-07-20T21:49:36","date_gmt":"2007-07-20T20:49:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/?p=94"},"modified":"2007-07-21T15:11:37","modified_gmt":"2007-07-21T14:11:37","slug":"oh-lord-dont-you-buy-me-a-mercedes-benz","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/?p=94","title":{"rendered":"Oh Lord, don&#8217;t you buy me a Mercedes Benz&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Now then.<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t believe in stereotyping.<\/p>\n<p>Especially in the world of &#8216;you are what you drive&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>Because that would be stupid, right?<\/p>\n<p>Right!<\/p>\n<p><em>(except that two out of the three drivers who unexpectedly blocked\u00c2\u00a0oncoming lines of traffic &#8211; as mentioned in <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/?p=91\"><em>this post<\/em><\/a><em> &#8211; were Mercedes drivers)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>But this evening (as I correctly and prophetically thought that the drive to pick up The Lovely S might be an interesting experience) I saw one and a half Mercedes cars.<\/p>\n<p>I saw the first one on the A442 at Bradford House, north of Droitwich.<\/p>\n<p>At this spot the road dips down in to a deep dip.<\/p>\n<p>Normally this deep dip isn&#8217;t filled with a fast-flowing torrent of flood water.<\/p>\n<p>It was this evening.<\/p>\n<p>And there was a police car, blue light flashing.<\/p>\n<p>The police officer was telling people that the road was impassable.<\/p>\n<p>But the Mercedes driver knew better.<\/p>\n<p>She pulled around the police car and drove down in to the dip and forwards in to the water.<\/p>\n<p>And her driving was straight out of the book of &#8220;<em>The proper way to drive through deep water<\/em>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>Not!<\/p>\n<p>She floored it and bombed through the deep water.<\/p>\n<p><em>Tried<\/em> to bomb it through the deep water.<\/p>\n<p>She got thirty-five metres towards the far side; the bow-wave was washing up against the windscreen, the stern-wave would have impressed an off-shore racing yacht.<\/p>\n<p>I sat there impressed at her stupidity.<\/p>\n<p>And then the lights on her car went out.<\/p>\n<p>The bow-wave and stern-wave collapsed.<\/p>\n<p>The car lost forward motion.<\/p>\n<p>The water began to settle around the Mercedes.<\/p>\n<p>The driver opened the door, letting tens of gallons of water in to wash around the inside of her Mercedes (I guess her electric window opener wouldn&#8217;t work!) and called back to the policeman for assistance.<\/p>\n<p>I could have sworn I heard him laugh.<\/p>\n<p>Of course I might have been mistaken, I was turning my car around at the time.<\/p>\n<p>The half of a Mercedes was the top half.<\/p>\n<p>Of another one; abandoned.<\/p>\n<p>The bottom half was submerged beneath 3&#8242; of fast-running water.<\/p>\n<p>See?<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m going to avoid the stereotyping statement about Mercedes drivers believing their cars are capable of floating on water.<\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Brennig<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Now then.
