{"id":9403,"date":"2013-07-20T21:24:28","date_gmt":"2013-07-20T20:24:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/?p=9403"},"modified":"2013-09-01T16:52:39","modified_gmt":"2013-09-01T15:52:39","slug":"film-review-pacific-rim","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/?p=9403","title":{"rendered":"Film Review: Pacific Rim"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Such was the standard of\u00a0Guillermo del Toro&#8217;s latest &#8216;humans v aliens&#8217; film, that it has taken me over a week to find the right words to match Pacific Rim.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_9406\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9406\" style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-9406\" alt=\"Not a good rimjob\" src=\"https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/wp-content\/\/PacRim-1024x512.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/PacRim-1024x512.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/PacRim-300x150.jpg 300w, https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/PacRim-250x125.jpg 250w, https:\/\/brennigjones.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/PacRim.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-9406\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Not a good rimjob<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>I feel it is safe to say that no matter how much SciFi (from all sub-genres of the category) one likes, \u00a0and no matter how much film-watching one does (and I do a lot of it, obv), one will find it incredibly difficult to find a film (past, present, or future), to match Pacific Rim.<\/p>\n<p>PacRim (to give it the shortened pre-prod title the creatives in Hollywood used) has more structural issues than a bridge that has fallen down.<\/p>\n<p>The plot has more holes than a flimsy, transparent thing with holes in it.<\/p>\n<p>And the writing struggles &#8211; but fails &#8211; to achieve the lofty heights of literary awfulness that the very worst work of Jeffrey Archer attains.<\/p>\n<p>Pacific Rim\u00a0is the single largest serving of shit (with a double side order of shit, and with a small portion of extra shit), that it has been my misfortune to ever see.<\/p>\n<p>I resisted the &#8216;get the fuck out of this cinema now&#8217; urge five times and yet, even a week later, I&#8217;m trying to figure out why I stuck it out.<\/p>\n<p>It was screamingly obvious from very early on that the film was an embarrassment to the viewing public.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately Pacific Rim just kept getting worse.<\/p>\n<p>And worse.<\/p>\n<p>And even worse.<\/p>\n<p>Boiled down to its component parts, Pacific Rim is an overlong, badly constructed film about giant robots hitting giant aliens.<\/p>\n<p>The end.<\/p>\n<p>I will be keeping an eye on the trade publications, eagerly waiting for the news that the Cinema Viewers Association has launched a class action against the production companies who put this rubbish out.<\/p>\n<p>I have seen excellent films. I have seen good films. I have seen average films.
