Today I am loving The Garden of Allah, the 1995 track by Don Henley.
The track shuffled on to my iPod on the way in to work this morning. I soaked up the lyrical outpouring and hit ‘replay’ straight away.
In a nutshell, it’s a modern-day parable about the Devil arriving in Hollywood and discovering he has become obsolete; humankind has perfected the practice of evil and no longer requires his assistance.
The song makes many barbed references to the media circus we now take for granted, and underscores the ‘expert’ witnesses at the OJ Simpson murder case.
The video features a very well-known Hollywood actor as The Devil.
