  1. *is itching to spew forth everything she learnt at the start of this year for Philosophy on Rousseau’s Social Contract Theory, and ideas on the General Will*

*ditto for all the research she’s done on Rousseau’s Social Contract Theory for French*

  2. Hi Brennig

Happy New Year to you to mate

Did you get TMA04 in ok?

How cool is the Rousseau stuff? I absolutely love it, just wish there was more of the TMA devoted to it.
Oooh and comparing a painting and a philosophical arguement … look at us spanning genres πŸ™‚

  3. But, soft! what light through yonder window breaks? It is the east, and Juliet is the sun.

Arise, fair sun, and kill the envious moon, Who is already sick and pale with grief, That thou, her maid, art far more fair than she.

Be not her maid, since she is envious; Her vestal livery is but sick and green and none but fools do wear it; cast it off.

It is my lady, O, it is my love!

O, that she knew she were!

She speaks yet she says nothing; what of that?

Her eye discourses; I will answer it.

I am too bold, ’tis not to me she speaks.

Two of the fairest stars in all the heaven, having some business, do entreat her eyes

To twinkle in their spheres till they return.

What if her eyes were there, they in her head?

The brightness of her cheek would shame those stars, as daylight doth a lamp; her eyes in heaven would through the airy region stream so bright that birds would sing and think it were not night.

See, how she leans her cheek upon her hand!

O, that I were a glove upon that hand,

That I might touch that cheek!

    How’s Jules (Juliet – geddit?)?

I’m struggling with it mate. I’m not finding the time to do the work to the standard that it should be done – things at work (the 9-5) are stupid and fitting everything in is proving very difficult – or impossible – for me.

Ah well. I’m going to stick at it and see what occurs but if the bottom falls out of my world (or the world falls out of my bottom) I can’t say I will be too surprised. xx

  4. I find myself going around in circles, I’ve made a start but that’s just the questions!! I keep going to p104 and then falling asleep!!

  5. Hi Sarah. If I could find the time to get started I’d be far more comfortable than I am! I’m now wishing I had the time that I *thought* I had when I started this course!

  6. I too am struggling. I really cannot be bothered with this at all. I’m waiting to get on to the Myths and Conventions section. I finally get to read a novel which is what I stupidly thought this course would be more about. D’oh!

  7. Hey,

i’ve stumbled across your blog after googling for inspiration. God, I really suck at this TMA! But thankfully I have a few days off work to make sense of what i’m writing.

    Good luck dude x

  8. Do you think I can get away with 800 words of a garbled attempt!? If anyone has a reasonable objection do let me know!! I keep looking at TMA6 and think the same as Amanda!

  9. Sarah (Hi, by the way), I think any attempt is better than no attempt at all. I also think that a late entry that’s better prepared than one that’s submitted on time but badly prepared gets a higher mark.

  10. Ahhh why do I keep leaving myself with only one week to do it…

Total sucker for punishment. : (

    Good luck people

  11. Hello all!
I actually seem to be on target for this essay, which is nothing short of miraculous, but can also be put down to the fact that I studied Jaques Rousseau for a week by mistake when I was trying to do TMA04!! (Well, Roux & Rousseau during the Revolution – an easy mistake to make?!)
I thought I’d hate this TMA, but I’m quite enjoying it and found it easy to compare the shared concerns as in question 3.
Mind you, that’s probably an indication that I didn’t quite grasp the ‘depth’ of the whole thing LOL!

  12. hi just found your site am soo glad i am not the only one struggling!! i have put it right off till the last minute, my excuse ‘trying to gather my thoughts!! ha ha!! thank god for substitution as i think this one will be my pantz tma!! i am in total agreement that tma06 looks much better!!!!

  13. This TMA is killing me… I’m having to re-read each paragraph 5 or 6 times before I even understand what it is that’s being said (the text books seem to be written in a way that just confuses me more… too many words – I’m sure it could be simpler!)

How much are people writing for the ‘objection to the claims that following the general will… blah blah blah’ bit? I’m just not getting it, and am struggling to come up with just a few sentences! : (

    Laura x

  14. Hi all, well I’ve finished the dratted thing, well I don’t think I have but I’ve had enough of it. Q1 was hell, goggledegook why cant the text book be written so I can understand it and not just prattle on, I’m sure it could have been done in one chapter! Anyway I have waffled for Q1. Q2, found that fine, did manage to grasp what is written in the text book! Well we’ll see when the marks come back. Q3. Err well flaffed and waffled through that one, and again will see how much when I get the marks!! If I scrape 41% I’ll be happy!!!

Has anyone got their TMA4 results yet??? I’ve not despite constant checking to see how crappily I managed to do on it.

And, the weather is gross here too, rain…rain…rain….

  15. Hey everyone…I have to say I am really glad I’m not the only one finding this TMA a nightmare!

I have just spent the last hour staring at the same page of notes and I have no idea if I’m even on the right lines…

Oh well…think I will try again tomorrow, good luck everyone πŸ™‚

  16. Hi Sarah,

I got TMA4 back last Friday – I’d email your tutor just to check where it is, although I’d have been happy if mine had just stayed where it was!

I’m very very jealous of you having finished! And I totally agree with the textbook thing – the wording is bizarre!!! I was struggling through whole chapters just to come across the one sentence in the whole damn thing that told me what I wanted to know and made sense to me. This TMA is driving me crazy! I log on here literally just to enjoy the fact that everyone else seems to find it as hard as I do!

    Good Luck!

    : )

  17. I got my TMA04 result back the Saturday after the deadline. My tutor is amazingly quick.
As for this current TMA I feel like my brain is about to trickle out of my ears. I am not sure if I have actually understood what I have read.

    Good Luck all!

  18. Have just found this angst ridden forum. Am glad to see others as baffled as myself re TMA05! Apart from convolutions of text book can’t grasp whether we’re to devise own example of objection in part 1 or regurgitate text – not that am capable of either – and time is running out!!!!!

  19. Just stumbled onto this site, looking for some inspiration. Yeah, I’m not the only one struggling, good lord. For a change tho, won’t be sitting up the whole night b4 to get it dun on time. Have finished everything (with no idea if it’s coherent but wateva) but sum 90 words to complete Q3. Aaaaarrrrgggghhh!!!!!

  20. Hey just wanted to say how glad i am that I aint the only one that is findin this one hard!! And if you think working 9-5 is hard to try anf fit it all in, try doing 9-11, and thats 9 in the morning till 11 in the night!! Nightmare!! If i get this one in on time, it’ll be after lots of late nights and coffee/red bull!!!!

Hope i find the words soon!!

500 words down!! Look at me go!!

  21. Well I have written what looks like the bit loads of rubbish! I have read, re-read and read a little bit more my pathetic attempt at answering the questions. I have then gone back the study material and re-read that.

Has anyone included quotes? I wasn’t sure whether I should or not?

  22. Also just came across this and am glad to see am not alone. Is it me or were units 10 & 11 just a whole load of repetition? My brain is on meltdown. Scream.

  23. Thank god I’m not the only one finding this a little difficult! On another note, does anyone find the third question a little bizarrely worded? Shared concern between a philosophical work pre-revolution and a possible opportunist painting?!? Or is it my shared concern? I’m pleased this bit need only be a paragraph long…

  24. Hi, I agree with Maeve. Chapters 10 + 11 could be a lot shorter. It seems like it’s just stuff being repeated over and over again. What sort of marks are people getting for their TMAs. I got 67% for TMA04

  25. Seems I’m doing the same as everyone, leaving it to the last minute and I feel like I’m going around in circles in this TMA at lease I’m not the only one

  26. Oh my god! Last minute I know, but I am so stuck. This TMA is going to be the death of me. I like the way it says part 3 ‘invites you’, invites me? I classify an invite as somethign I want to go to. I don’t want to go to this! My measly 400 words are shrinking not growing, help!!!

  27. I got 84% for TMA04. The previous TMA’s were between 70-80%. Am not expecting a high mark for this one at all. I wrote it on Monday and haven’t looked at it since. Going to check it tonight for spellings and put in my bibliography then I might just send it off as it is.

  28. omg i have done 500 words for TMA05 but i am so stuck, i dont even understand what the questions are asking. and its due in like tomorrow. and i started this morning. eeeekkk

  29. So glad i found you lot. At least we’re all in the same sinking ship. This tma is a nightmare. I’m going round and round and just getting dizzier. I’m sticking with it tonight tho, and hopefully get it finished so i can go to the pub tomorrow night! Ò€œpublish and be damned’, i guess that sums it up. Good luck.

  30. Arghghggh
I have got to part 3 with 200 ish words left to go and my brain is melting!!!!
Great to read all the other coments – nothing like a bit of solidarity!
    Good luck y’all!

  31. yee haaaa! in the bag, wot a load of old twaddle that was. I found that repetition filled the final 200 words, go girl!

  32. Does anyone know what to do if you lose a dvd? i did this assignment without watching the dvd, had to rely on transcripts which was a nightmare. Not going through that again! whew!

  33. I’m holding off on sending my 1200 words of utter tripe, until I can find a way of sourcing the quote, “The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one.” from Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan. Gotta get a bit of sci-fi into these assignments somehow, or I’ll go mad…

PS. I’ve lost my DVD 2 as well. Hopefully, I’ll be able to muddle through without it. πŸ™

  34. hi all
    just finished at half four
didn’t watch the dvd, hopeless case. am also following the published and be damned approach, rather daft but i forgot to do a spell check oh well. good luck everyone

  35. Well thankfully mine got off into the depths of the eTMA system, will see what my tutor makes of it!

So, TMA6, religious studies or history of science…hmmmmm…

  36. Yeh..am anxiously awaiting the mark back. Well no, thats a lie. not anxiously. i KNOW i did bad, so i dont need to be anxious.
Oh well. at least i can cross it off my list

    πŸ˜€

P.s to everyone saying they lost the DVD’S..they’re kinda rubbish anyway πŸ˜€

  37. I have just for my mark back and I managed to get 80%. Words escape me! I keep relooking at it to make sure that I have read it right!!!

  38. Hi Laura,

You got your TMA result super fast! Posted the 25th and a return the 29th?

It usually takes our tutor just over a week if we are lucky to get the results in.

Does anyone else have their results in 4 days?

    Seb

  39. My tutor normally marks it the next day. He’s really good. I am so pleased with my mark. Hope everyone else does well πŸ™‚ x

  40. *is still waiting for her result*
grr why should we have to get it in on time when they can take aslong as they like to mark it!

  41. Well done Sebastian, that’s a really good mark. I was expecting a proper low mark. It wasn’t my highest but I am pleased considering how much I struggled to put pen to paper.
