In The Air

There is a live version of Phil Collins performing “(Something) In The Air Tonight” which… Wait a minute. Context is everything so I’ll begin again. There is a special live recording of Phil Collins performing “(Something) In The Air Tonight” and I need to emphasise the specialness, because there are a couple of quite ordinary live versions of “(Something) In The Air Tonight” knocking about, but none of them are this special live recording.

I’m not exactly a Phil Collins fan, but the version I’m talking about is stunning, and has been known to induce tears, not to mention wet seats. Probably.

Because of my most recent musical tech move (more on that at a later date), I’m looking to get my grubby hands on this special live recording, so I can stuff the audio into my ears via my portable music player.

However, it seems that special live version was only released on DVD as part of the concert recordings. So now I’m mulling over buying that DVD recording, connecting our DVD player (yes, we still have one, though it hasn’t been used for a few years) to my HiFi, and then putting a line-in into the laptop where I can record the audio on Audacity, then save/export the audio file as a high quality AAC. Or maybe I could just line-out from the DVD player directly into the laptop, bypassing the HiFi, and doing the same Audacity save/export, etc. I’m not even too certain either would work, but they should, eh?

Meanwhile, here’s Phil doing it on that DVD:

  1. Ah, yes. This one has come into my feed several times in the last year or so. It is pretty special. The build-up to sitting down at the kit is a masterpiece.
