I seem to have wet myself and it’s all ITV’s fault.
Saturday evening television is just the place for high art and ITV on a Saturday is the perfect purveyor of televised high art.
First we have Harry Hill’s ‘You’ve been Framed’ which is comedy gold. Yes, I know it’s cheap and chavvy but it’s also very amusing. It’s also the reason I’ve accidentally wet myself.
Next up will be Harry Hill’s TV Burp which, I have to admit, is an acquired taste. But still very amusing.
And then, the dessert course of this televisual feast is, of course, Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Take Away.
The perfect food for the brain-numbed who don’t want to think too much about anything.
That would be me. I hope you don’t think too badly of me because, let’s face it, I’d be watching this whatever. 🙂

Have you seen Total Wipeout yet? It wasn’t on yesterday because of the rugby, but it’s back next week – BBC1, 5.40. Mick and I sit there with tears pouring down our faces.

As a rule, I tend not to watch ITV – nothing snobbish, I just rarely find anything on there very entertaining.
I make an exception for Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway though. It’s a lot of fun and harks back to Don’t Forget Your Toothbrush.
I struggle with Harry Hill. Don’t really find him funny on TV at all. Yet the funniest man I have seen live on stage, the one that had me almost wetting myself with laughter was… Harry Hill.
Go figure.
I’ll agree with You’ve Been Framed (it might not be very highbrow but no matter what anyone says, it IS funny to watch the fat chav get pecked in the ass by an ostrich and the dopey man fall off the rope swing) and TV Burp but I can’t be doing with Ant and Dec. Theire relentless cheerfulness gives me issues. If you like You’ve Been Framed then Caroline above is right, you’ll like Total Wipeout. The final bit is fairly dull but the qualifiers, where a selection of odd and mentally deficient people fall in mud and off obstacles in a variety of limb-dislocating ways is very entertaining indeed.

last time i watched youve been framed i insisted, to my dad, that i didnt especially want to watch it, its not funny. turns out it is very very funny, but i dont like people falling down since im prone to it myself and i just feel sorry for them

Harry Hill’s TV Burp is fantastic. So funny.
I spent Saturday night at my Dad’s house. We got a super hot curry in and sat side by side with dinner on trays watching Saturday Night Take Away. No talking. It was like I was a kid again when we used to watch Noel’s House Party together every weekend. Good times 🙂
Have to say I have alway found ITV to be the most dissapointing of the main channels but that said Harry Hill is a family favourite. It’s great TV when you have kids. But by and large ITV just seems to be a sad shadow of it’s 70’s glory.
That said I reckon there is better comedy coming out of British TV now then for decades. Lee Mack (Not Going Out) and Jack Dee (Lead Ballon) are writing material on a par with any thing produced in Britain in the 60’s/70’s or for that matter anything being written by the talented teams in the U.S today. But I’m afraid it just doesn’t come from ITV.
