The ticking of the calendar

Because it’s that time of year, I’ve just had the car serviced; two years old, time marching quicker than it should.

I was prompted to book the service when the ‘Change oil soon’ light came on.

My first thought was ‘Why can’t the warning say ‘Change *the* oil soon’? Why do we have to drop words out of sign or notice to make the message incorrect?

My second thought was ‘How many miles have I done in this car in the last year?’

Less Fewer than 2,500 miles it turns out.

Anyway, today I took the Ninja for her MOT.

It should have been six months ago, but the MoT changed the rules because of C19, and gave some of us an extension of six months.

Needless to say the Ninja had no issues with the test. Her MOT certificate shows that in the last 18 months she’s done slightly less than 3,000 miles.

So in the last 18 months my combined forms of transport have travelled 5,500 miles.

I can’t see that increasing very much in the next six months.

  1. Similarly, I have just booked my car in for its MOT, next Saturday. I fully expect it to pass with no issues.
And also similarly, my Bonneville received a 6-month extension. It’s now due on Dec 23rd. What a horrible date! I ain’t going to leave it till then and will see if I can get it booked in before this month is out.

    1. If I could I’d push the tax back/pull it forward so that I could SORN the bike all through the winter. But I can’t, obviously.
