Last night I stayed up very late* to watch a TV programme of my youf youth.
The Champions (Talking Pictures TV), episode one.
They say (whoever ‘they’ are) that you should never go back. And they’re mostly right.
I mean, how awful is a 53-year old TV series going to be?
Yep, pretty awful.
And also very good.
No, I don’t know either.
I shall probably be watching episode 2 on Sunday. Or recording it. Or both.
*It started at 9pm and ran for an hour
I remember it well.
And fondly.
What a theme tune!
Cardboard sets, polystyrene masquerading as snow, badly-staged fight scenes. It was delicious
Many years ago now, though this century, I was home sick and scouring channels for anything to watch to keep my mind occupied. I stumbled across a rerun of a show I LOVED as a kid. I began watching and even remembered some of the plot of the particular episode. Just when I thought the story was about to get to the good bit I could not quite remember, the episode ended. No it wasn’t a two-parter. It was just a perilously thin plot! But… so long as that Ford Capri entered a scene sideways, and the boss looked grumpy, I guess it was a wrap. Still a great theme tune, though.
Sounds like The Professionals to me
Oh God! I LOVED The Professionals.
Still do.
