I attended a Synology seminar a couple of weeks ago. It was all about how to use the NAS as a streaming music station, but also how to connect your streaming music station (NAS) to Spotify via Alexa.
We’ve got a Sonos One which has Alexa and Spotify built in so, logically, it would be good to have a Sonos One/Alexa/Spotify/Streaming Music Station/NAS suite of music technology.
I could have a library of playlists comprised of digital, Spotify, vinyl-to-digital and private recordings that are not commercially available.
However the pivotal part of the whole turning the NAS into a streaming music centre concept is that the hosted/source music must be in the shared Music directory/folder.
And that’s a thing. My music library is in my personal profile on the NAS.
So, make a shared folder and move it all into there 🙂
I’ve been streaming music from my NAS to the Sonos for a long time. We have a family Spotify account, but I never use it… just happy to stream from my not very extensive collection.
My DS215j started playing up (again) a few weeks back, so I’ve now switched to a Netgear unit. Seems to work just as well.
Interesting you aren’t with Synology. What’s the spec of the new unit?
