The little brown spanner has been enhancing his spaniel hearing lately. Spaniel hearing is where he goes temporarily deaf to all commands as he heads off at full speed through undergrowth, trees, fields and whatever else stands in between him and his goal.
The trouble is his goal is usually a bird on the wing, 50m-60m in the air. Once he even attempted to chase down a helicopter at 8,000′. He is clever at snatching birds out of bushes, but it’s not acceptable for him to be diving into people’s gardens to do the snatching.
So on Saturday the good lady of the house took the dogs down to the village pet shop and procured one of those extending/retracting dog-lead things.
Now the little bugger darling doesn’t get off the lead anymore, but he can still do a controlled amount of gadding about.
That’ll learn him. Possibly.
It won’t learn him at all.
Trust me.
You’re right, so far
