Listeners to the podcast will know, from this week’s show, that we have decided not to have a formal itinerary on our forthcoming trip to the US.
But we do have a list of places to go/people to see.
This list includes things like:
- drive up the coast from LA to San Fran
- optional detours to wine-growing country
- trip to Omaha for some reason or other
- a Vegas trip and, while we’re there, something like this: helicopter and hummer tour
If anyone has done that trip, or something similar, please feed me with opinions. Ta.
We took Helicopter into Canyon and landed down in it for a picnic.. its a must ..well worth the money.. fly over Hoover dam and the Indian country
When in Vegas, make sure you go up to Freemont Street and see some of the older style Vegas.
If you have time and are in the vicinity, I can also heartily recommend a go on the salt plains in Utah.
I’ve done the first two on your list and it was fantastic. I found San Francisco really cosmpolitan compared to most US towns. It has a ‘gay quarter’ for chrissake!
The vineyard thing is good fun too……. I did it with my mate the blogger, Clare Jones…… and it was a right good laugh.
Sounds like you have a blast lined up!
Oh, ummm.
Go to Amoeba Records: http://www.amoeba.com/ (Haight St, San Fran).
If you can, go to San Diego – beautiful city.
If you make it there, then hop across the border to Tijuana.
I found Vegas a little over-rated. I was drunk, like everybody else. It’s really quite a vacuous space down the main strip.
LA was big – too big, so didn’t discover much.
Get to an IHOP and an Olive Garden if you can. Also Taco Bell and Jack in the box. Loved Jack in the box’s burgers (perhaps not great for vegetarians).
Have a brilliant time.

With what is going on around our southern border, I would not go to Tijuana if someone put a gun to my head – if you’ll pardon my choice of words. During good times, Tijuana was nothing but a tourist trap. Now it is absolutely dangerous. Tijuana is NOT Mexico.
