Instant film review: James Bond/Skyfall

  • Back to basics intro, lots of action before the titles
  • Adele sings a song in the style of Vic Reeves’ pub singer
  • Awful product placement (can we lose this horrible trend please?)
  • No ‘end of the world’ destruction weapons, just one really bad guy
  • Minimal fancy gadgets
  • Shanghai looks pretty
  • So does Macau
  • London doesn’t really
  • Especially the Underground
  • He threw a tube train at him
  • Missed
  • Ralph Fiennes plays Ralph Fiennes very well
  • It gets dark in Scotland unfeasibly quickly
  • They blew up the DB5
  • So he trashed their helicopter
  • They all lived happily ever after*
  • Epic bad-guy acting by Javier Bardem
  • *this may not be true

  1. Glad your review didn’t contain any real spoilers (they blew up the DB5 ffs?!) as I’m a huge Bond fan and am really looking forward to seeing this in a couple of weeks time.

Vic was the pub singer, not Bob.

  2. It gets dark in Scotland unfeasibly quickly

Haven’t seen it yet, but by December we’ll have less than 6 and a half hours between sunrise and sunset up here and it was filmed not too far away.

    1. Ah, I meant the speed with which it gets dark, not the duration of daylight hours. In the film Scotland goes from full daylight to total night in about 27 seconds.

  3. I couldn’t work out whether you liked it or not until I saw your response to Masher. Blindingly good eh? That’s enough of a reason for me to get a ticket to the cinema 😉

  4. “It gets dark in Scotland infeasibly quickly”

It does!! In winter it often doesn’t even bother getting light. I’ve been in Aberdeen before and asked a passing vicar if he could have “a word upstairs” and “get the old boy to switch the lights on” at 10am, it’s been that dark.

    An I’m an atheist…
