Music Challenge: Day 15/2016

A song that I wish I heard more often on the radio

*tries to decipher my notes and wonders what King If Tge Toast was*

The key to this is that in order to list a song I wish I heard more often, the song had to be on the radio in the first place.

So that wipes out a good 1/3rd of my record collection – all the brilliant songs from unsigned and under recognised artists.

After a lot of thought, my memory took me back to the late Terry Wogan.

When he presented his morning show on BBC R2 Sir Terry, every now and then, played music not listed on the BBC Playlist.

These were his favourites.

Songs that he loved.

Terry would frequently slip this song in, when he was able, it would appear as the last track, just before the 8am news.

And it seems that, with the sad demise of Terry Wogan from the BBCs airwaves, so too has the work of Clifford T Ward slipped from the consciousness of the Nation’s public service radio broadcaster.

This is a sad double loss.

The song that I wish I heard more often on the radio is Clifford T Ward’s ‘The Best Is Yet To Come’.

This is 2’24” of beautifully enunciated, articulate story-telling, from a singer-songwriter who achieved much less fame than very many people possessing just a fraction of his immense talent.

  1. Ahh, that’s nice.
    I think.
And not what I was expecting.
I thought I was going to hear a cover of Tony Bennett’s 60’s song of the same name.
    I’ll be honest, I think I prefer Tony’s one.

  2. As you say, very under-rated. I could have chosen Home Thoughts from Abroad for the same reason. Terry is indeed a great loss. He was always good for finding fine records from less well known or unknown artists and just slipping them into his show.
