Today is 2nd January 2021 and Spaniel The Senior is two years old. Yet, bizarrely, it seems like she’s always been part of our lives. I’m serious. No idea how this works, it just does. I struggle to remember a time she wasn’t around. Perhaps my medium-term memory is over-writing itself on a loop?
Anyway.
This Festive Period we diverted from our usual ‘buy two Christmas Trees for a lot of money at the Garden Centre’ tradition and instead bought one notChristmas Tree online (because Covid, obviously).
The absolute benefit of having a notChristmas Tree is we don’t need to spend the next eight months removing pine needles from the furniture/rugs/items of clothing/dogs/cats/soft toys/cushions, etc.
Also, last year Spaniel The Senior discovered that whenever she swished her tail against the main tree, it made a delightful noise. See above re pine needles.
Back to the plot.
She does love making sounds. She bings the fire tools (small ash spade, tongs, brush, poker) with her nose because they make a nice ringing noise. She also pokes the coal scuttle with her noise so it makes a deeply satisfying ‘thud’ noise. So this year, to fill the ‘gentle swishing of the torrential fall of pine needles’ gap, a couple of small ‘Christmas’ bells were hung low on the notChristmas Tree.
And yes, she bings them with her nose, and swishes them with her tail, and manages to make a fine tinkling ‘Christmas’ bell-type sound. She clearly loves making sounds.
I only hope she doesn’t take up playing the recorder.

(not Spaniel The Senior, obviously)
With skills like that, she should be on BGT.
“And next we have Bren and his amazing campanology dog!”
She’s bright enough to tell me that she’s going to be washing her hair that night
