I set myself two jobs today. Two relatively little jobs. I estimated an hour for each one.
The first job took two and a half hours. It was fiddly but easy. I could have got it done inside 25 minutes if I had an extra pair of hands. It was operating solo and doing stuff where I couldn’t see my hands that made things difficult.
But as a result of this we have a nice, new dogflap, and the old one is in the bin. So yay to that.
The second job took exactly 55 minutes but it broke me. On my back, working upwards above my head in a cramped, confined space, my body twisted at an awkward angle.
Why is replacing a toilet seat so difficult?
Anyway, with everything else going on in these parts, that’s today’s rundown. And I’ve only had calls from two agencies asking if I’d be interested in contracts.
I’m counting today as the first full day of not working since I erm, stopped working. It was half-term last week, so that didn’t count.
So I’ve crossed off a couple of jobs from my list, walked the dogs twice (so far), driven to the next village on a Very Important Errand, and watched the final episode of The Expanse. And what a stunning conclusion to a sweeping epic that was!

Today has been a good day.
Toilett seats can be awkward and fiddly, I know, but the last one that I fitted – just a cheapy from B&Q, I think – had different “innovative” fittings and it took me all of ten minutes to fit it.
The Expanse… seen that advertised on either Netflix or Amazon – can’t remember which. Worth a watch?
We had a couple of those innovative toilet seat fitting thingys. The broke. We’re now on our third (and this one’s non-innovative) in four years. The Expanse? If you like SciFi and big space sagas with people looking serious and what seems to be a near bottomless effects budget, it’s great. I’ve read the first book in the series, and I would recommend that as the intro to the TV series.
Well, I still have Foundation to get started on yet (looks pretty impressive), but I’ll pencil it in.
You have time to read?
Oh yes, I forgot… you do..
I think Leviathan Awake is the first book in the series? And (being serious) you wouldn’t believe how busy I am/how much I’ve got to do.
